Marquette is my top choice. Quite honestly, I was shocked to see that I was put on the wait list, considering I was accepted into schools that are much better than Marquette. However, I did I apply to their most competitive school and I'm guessing that's why I'm on the wait list. Anyway, I would greatly appreciate if I got some feedback on the letter I am writing to them expressing my interest in Marquette. Here it is, thanks. --------------------- I have received word that I have been put on the wait list for Marquette’s class of 2016 in the School of Health Sciences. I understand the terms of being placed on the wait list, and am not disagreeing or about to battle with the decision. However, I would like to make it clear that if moved off of the wait list, I will undeniably enroll. Whether or not this declaration will alter my chances of being pulled of the wait list, I do want to put myself out there. I am aware that the wait list is based off of available space in the freshman class and it would benefit the school to fill the class completely. Therefore, if/when any spots become available, I can ensure I will fill that spot. As the admissions board reviewed my application, I assume it was reviewed keeping in mind things that I would offer to the school and its community. In which case, I would like to mention what Marquette, as a school and a community, can offer to me. I applied into the College of Health Sciences due to my desire to hopefully become a pediatric physical therapist. Because I do not want to venture outside of the Midwestern region – or for that matter outside of Illinois or Wisconsin – Marquette’s physical therapy track offers me education that is recognized nationally for that particular major. Additionally, I am fully aware of The Marquette Tribune and its success. After holding a position as an editor on my school’s newspaper, I would love to carry it into my college career, especially because it would offer a niche for me in an otherwise new environment and life experience. I became casually interested in Marquette by late sophomore year, despite my sights being set on schools far away from my Chicago suburb home. Approaching my junior year, I realized that my close family ties would be too much for me to leave behind, and therefore began looking at Midwestern schools more seriously. By February of my junior year, I had gone on a visit to Marquette and since, have been deeply set on attending. The visit was centered on the School of Communications, and even though it was not tailored to my interest in the School of Health Sciences, every part of the school wooed me. All of the students seemed to have a sense of friendliness and almost familial attitudes towards each other. That sense of community and family is what has kept me so drawn to Marquette. Marquette is also known for having intense school spirit, especially for their basketball team. As a student of Maine South, school spirit will not be one of the things to describe the school as a whole, but personally, I am extremely proud of my school due to its excellence in education and sports. Each Marquette student I have talked has always spoken highly of the school and is always extremely proud and blessed to be a student at Marquette. At Maine South, it feels as though I am one of the few students who hold a sense of pride and esteem towards being a part of that community. By attending Marquette, rather than being the minority student participating in spirit week, I would be one of the thousands attending a basketball game, or any other event for that matter. As I mentioned earlier, my family has played a huge determining factor in the type of schools I have applied to. Indeed, I applied to large schools like University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign; however, those schools failed to offer me that feel of “home,” not simply in terms of the familial attitudes, but a physical environmental sense. I grew up near the city of Chicago and have fallen in love with the busy, fast-paced environment. Marquette is located in the center of downtown Milwaukee and will offer me that urban feel that I am so comfortable with. Again, if blessed with a spot for admission, I will certainly accept that spot. I do not have similar sentiments towards any of my back up schools and am ready to commit to Marquette as soon as possible. It may be that what the admissions board looks for in students is how that particular student can enrich Marquette as a school and community. However, I am hopeful in that enlightening the board of admissions of how Marquette will enrich me, it will give me the opportunity to return the favor and not simply become another student at Marquette, but rather, a Golden Eagle....
